The Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in association with Language Link Vietnam, an international education group, officially launched the eighth English Olympic Contest for primary children for 2010 - 2011 with the aim of improving English pronunciation as well as realising and cultivating talented children.
The contest this year has attracted the participation of more than 1,000 children, good at English, from 200 schools in 29 districts in the City.
There will be two rounds in the contest. The first round will take place on March 26th at Quang Trung Primary School and the second on April 9th at the Vietnam Revolution Museum, at 25 Tong Dan, Hoan Kiem District.
150 top children from the first round will participate in the listening and reading tests for 45 minutes and an oral test for five to ten minutes, with interviews by native teachers from Language Link.
There will be 100 prizes for individuals and 10 prizes for groups.
* Two first prizes include two full scholarships, worth US$ 440 each, for an English course for children in Language Link Vietnam, and VND 2 million in cash and presents from the Oxford Publishing House.
* Ten second prizes: a full scholarship, worth US $ 220, for an English course at Language Link Vietnam, and VND 1 million in cash and presents from the Oxford Publishing House.
* 20 third prizes: a half-scholarship, worth VND 2.5 million, for an English course in Language Link Vietnam, and VND 500.000 in cash and presents from the Oxford Publishing House.
* 68 consolation prizes consisting of half-scholarships for an English course at Language Link Vietnam and presents from the Oxford Publishing House.
* 10 group prizes, for five schools and five districts, will be presented with commemorative flags and presents, worth VND 1 million.
In addition, all participants will sit for a test of English proficiency for free, and be given 10 % discount for an English course in Language Link Vietnam.
