A lot of presents have been given to the poor and the disabled in Hai Phong city, the northern-central province of Nghe An and Ho Chi Minh City.

2,008 banh chung or glutinous rice cakes stuffed with green been and pork have been presented to needy people in Nghe An.

These banh chung were donated by kind-hearted persons nationwide in response to the appeal by IT knights Nguyen Cong Hung and Nguyen Thi Thao Van on website nghilucsong.net. Beneficiaries are the elderly or people with disabilities, and poor families in communes of Nghi Dien and Nghi Hoa in Nghi Loc district and Hung Trung commune in Hung Nguyen.

On January 29, a group of International Youth Club (IYC) Vietnam volunteers and representatives of Sunny of the Republic of Korea presented Tet gifts to children of Thi Nghe Support Centre for Children in Nghe An.

Earlier, 200 children facing difficulties in Binh Hung Hoa B ward, Binh Tan precinct in Ho Chi Minh City received Tet presents, valued at 100,000 VND each. The gifts were handed over by SK Telecom in cooperation with IYC Vietnam and Korean Sunny on January 27 in the evening. The presents are under a programme titled “Spring Flower-Journey to Vietnam”.

On this occasion, Tien Phong newspaper granted 5 scholarships, each worth 400,000 VND, to poor students with good studying results.

Meanwhile, in Hai Phong, the city’s Buddhists’ Association also gave Tet presents valued at 100 million VND to nearly 600 HIV/AIDS-positive children.

The Marketing Semi-Public University in Ho Chi Minh City also gave each student of ethnic minority groups, disadvantaged and storm-hit regions 100,000 VND as lucky Tet money.
