PANO - A ceremony to announce the decisions to name a street after General Vo Nguyen Giap and the May 7th Square was held on April 25th by Dien Bien Phu City People’s Committee, Dien Bien provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the provincial People’s Committee Office.

Following the decisions of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee, the May 7th Street, an avenue of Dien Bien Phu City, is named after the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Cultural Conference Centre Square is named the May 7th Square.

Vo Nguyen Giap Street, nearly 7km long and 32m wide, stretches from Huoi Pha Bridge to another bridge bordering Dien Bien district. This street goes across Him Lam, Tan Thanh and Muong Thanh wards. The places had witnessed fierce battles in the resounding Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Attending the ceremony, Late General Vo Nguyen Giap’s son, Vo Hong Nam, thanked Dien Bien provincial Party Committee, authorities and people for their special gratitude to General Vo Nguyen Giap and thousands of martyrs who had died for the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. Nam also reminded General Vo Nguyen Giap’s wish that organs at all levels and people in the province would unite, inherit and bring into play the revolutionary tradition and preserve historical relics relating to the Dien Bien Phu Campaign to educate the generations to come.
