State President Nguyen Minh Triet said he hoped that Plan International would continue to expand its activities in Viet Nam, pledging to create favourable conditions for foreign non-governmental organisations' operations.
President Triet expressed his hope while receiving Thomas Joel Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International on Nov. 29.
The State President affirmed that Viet Nam always welcomes NGOs to Viet Nam for humanitarian and development cooperation.
The leader emphasised the valuable assistance from Plan International and other international organisations to Viet Nam, especially Vietnamese children.
For his part, Miller attributed the success of Plan International in Viet Nam to the close cooperation from relevant ministries and branches and the Vietnamese staff members' efforts.
He said Plan International is currently involved in activities to improve the living conditions of about 120,000 children in 150 communes in 13 provinces and cities in Viet Nam.
Over the past 10 years, Plan International has provided Viet Nam with nearly 50 million USD, most of which was spent on the building of hundreds of kindergartens and schools.
Under its strategic plan for Viet Nam in 2005-2010, Plan International pledged to help Viet Nam implement many projects targeting poor, underprivileged children and children of ethnic minorities with a total budget of 55 million USD.
