The event saw the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu, and representatives of departments, agencies, international organization, and foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Vietnam.
On this occasion, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong sent a letter of congratulations to the VUFO. In the letter, Trong praised the VUFO’s achievements over the past 70 years.

Since its establishment on November 17, 1950, the VUFO and its affiliated units have made great efforts to overcome all difficulties, thus making important contributions to the general achievements of the country, and the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other nations.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed that the VUFO's development history has demonstrated the significance of people-to-people diplomacy, saying that people-to-people diplomacy activities have mobilized international support for the national construction and defense cause. People-to-people diplomacy also contributed to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between the Vietnamese and other peoples, and promoting peace, security and sustainable development in the world.
Regarding the VUFO's missions for the coming time, the Deputy Minister asked the VUFO to actively renovate working methods and programs and increase people-to-people diplomacy activities, thereby contributing to expanding a network of international partners, and promoting the image of a beautiful Vietnam with friendly, hospitable, vibrant and hard-working people as well as lots of opportunities for business and investment.
Speaking at the event, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the VUFO’s engagement in multilateral and regional forums has strengthened the role and position of Vietnam while mobilizing more support from international friends for building and safeguarding the Fatherland in the current period.
Currently, the VUFO has 116 member organizations at both central and local levels.
For its achievements, the VUFO has received many noble awards from the Party and the State such as the Ho Chi Minh Order (2003), the first-class Labor Order, and various orders from other countries. At the cerebration, the VUFO received the Ho Chi Minh Order for the second time from the State President.
The same day, the VUFO also held its Patriotic Emulation Congress of Hanoi for the 2020-2025 period.
