Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, head of the Central Steering Committee for the Development of Vietnamese Culture, chairs the committee’s inaugural meeting on March 19, 2026.

Tu highlighted the urgency of addressing pressing challenges, particularly institutional, policy and legal bottlenecks. Relevant agencies were asked to clearly identify obstacles, set specific timelines for resolution, and define responsibilities for both advisory and implementing bodies.

He also called for greater accountability among steering committee members while encouraging input from leading scientists, experts, cultural practitioners and grassroots initiatives, alongside enhancing the role of grassroots cultural facilities.

Measures, he stressed, must be practical and results-oriented, avoiding formality while ensuring close coordination and synchronized implementation.

Key priorities include promoting Vietnam’s cultural values, national values, family values and standards for Vietnamese people in the new era.

The official emphasized the development of foundational cultural infrastructure, particularly national-scale cultural facilities, as well as the building of digital cultural infrastructure and the effective operation of the national cultural data system and shared digital platforms integrated with national databases. Clear implementation roadmaps, resource allocation and responsible agencies must be identified to ensure efficiency.

Tu also requested the completion of the steering committee’s 2026 work program. As an immediate task, he assigned the National Assembly Party Committee to lead the drafting of a National Assembly resolution on cultural development for submission to the 16th National Assembly at its first session, aiming to remove bottlenecks and introduce breakthrough incentive policies to mobilize resources for cultural advancement.

The meeting followed the Politburo’s issuance of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on January 7, 2026 on developing Vietnamese culture. On February 25, the Politburo established the Central Steering Committee to assist the Politburo and the Secretariat in directing, supervising and overseeing cultural development nationwide.

During its first session, the committee reviewed four main agenda items, including a report on the resolution implementation, draft working regulations, proposed task assignments for members, and the committee’s 2026 work program.
