PANO - The Ministry of Construction has reported that VND 447 billion has been raised to build flood-proof houses for poor people in the Central region, as an act of implementing the Prime Minister decision No.48/2014/QD-TTg.

The sum includes VND 223 billion from the central budget, over VND 12 billion from the local budget and VND 132 billion from the Bank for Social Policies. The remaining is from other resources.

To date, about 4,498 poor households have been supported with financial assistance to build flood-proof houses, accounting for 17 percent of the project’s set target and 16 percent of the targeted households.

The construction cost of these houses ranges from VND 30 – 60 million each. Each floor is at least 15sq.m and higher than the highest-ever recorded flood level.

Apart from the report, the Ministry of Construction also proposed the Prime Minister to approve an additional VND 139 billion from the central budget so as to complete the project next year for 28,132 benefited households.
