Luu Hong Quang, the only Vietnamese Pianist at the International Piano competition, “Lev Vlassenko”, which ended in Australia on Sunday, won the first prize.

At this contest the Vietnamese pianist also won the first prize for the second round solo performance and the best classical sonata player and some other high prizes.

This is the 13th International Piano Contest organised by Australia to commemorate pianist Lev Vlassenko, who had won golden prize at the List International Piano Competition in 1956, the second prize at the first Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in 1958 and had played piano with various world famous symphony orchestras.

The competition attracted the participation of 20 pianists from different countries who are studying in music schools in Australia.

Luu Hong Quang, born in 1990, started playing piano when he was five under the instruction of his father, Associate Professor, Dr Luu Quang Minh, one of the experts in accordion and jazz music in Hanoi.

Since 2006, he has won many prizes at international competitions in piano.

Last year Luu Hong Quang was the only Vietnamese pianist to perform together with famous pianists from Florence at a classical music night at the Hanoi Opera House.
