International Biology Olympiad wraps up

PANO – The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) wrapped up on July 23rd in Hanoi, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Chairman of IBO Coordinators Poonpipope Kasemsap.
The competition is held annually for biology students, aged from 14 to 19. Each country and territory is allowed to send 4 students to the competition.

After 7-days of the competition, all students of the host Vietnam won medals. Accordingly, Vu Thi Chinh from the Gifted High School under the University of Natural Sciences of the Vietnam National University won a gold medal; Le Thi Hong Hoa from the Hanoi- Amsterdam High School won a silver medal; and Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hai from the Ha Long Gifted High School (Quang Ninh province) and Nguyen Dac Hieu from the Lam Son Gifted High School (Thanh Hoa province) won bronze medals. After 16 years, the Vietnamese delegation won again a gold medal at an IBO.
At the closing ceremony, the organizing panel presented 26 gold, 51 silver and 74 bronze medals to outstanding contestants. The panel also honored three best contestants, namely Wang Yunzhuo of the Chinese team, and Tang Fengjie and Lim Yi Shen Justin of the Singaporean team with scores of 92.293, 90.891, 95.574, respectively.
The next IBO competition will take place in the United Kingdom.
