Implementation of external information service reviewed
PANO - The Central Commission for Information and Education and the Central Steering Committee for External Information Service held a conference on August 2 to review the implementation of Conclusion No.16-KL/TW of the Politburo (11th tenure) and Directive No.26 of the Secretariat (10th tenure) on external information service.
At the meeting, participants agreed that relevant units and agencies have fulfilled the external information dissemination mission assigned by the Party and State with encouraging results. Awareness of the mission in the new period among Party committees, authorities at all levels and people of all walks of life has been improved. The system of agencies which specialize in external information service has been better revamped and relevant documents have been completed. However, there still remain shortcomings that need fixing, including the low level of awareness of the work, the failure to fully bring into play the synergy of the whole political system, the shortage of information and the lack of suitable dissemination methods.
Delivering a speech at the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, highlighted detailed plans with various activities devised by the Ministry of National Defense over the past time. The plans helped shape a firm and effective external information dissemination front, contributing actively to the overall foreign relations activities and the implementation of external information service. Over the past five years, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense have paid much attention to renovating contents and methods of external information dissemination.
Addressing the meeting, Head of the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong, who is also Head of the Central Steering Committee for External Information Service, hailed the achievements of the service over the past time and stressed the complicated situations of the world and the region in the coming time. He said that agencies in charge of external information dissemination need to be more creative, flexible and proactive in making proposals for carrying out the work.
Thuong pointed out the need to continue renewing dissemination contents and improving the efficiency of external information service under the motto “Accuracy, timeliness, flexibility and appropriateness”. He also stressed that there should be diversified forms of dissemination, further promotion of the role of major external information service press agencies and overseas Vietnamese representative missions, expansion of channels broadcasting programs in foreign languages and use of new means of communications for timely and effective dissemination of external information.
The Central Commission for Information and Education then presented certificates of merit to eight groups and six individuals for their outstanding contributions to the work over the past time.
