Vientiane, the capital city of Laos

A delegation of Ho Chi Minh City authorities has joined Lao people celebrate their Bunpimay traditional New Year festival during a current visit to Laos.

The delegation enjoyed a variety of special cultural programmes, including a carnival involving thousands of local people and an exhibition featuring fine arts and handicrafts of the country.

On April 15, the delegation visited the construction site of a new national university. The future university, built on a 26,000 sq.m area, is estimated to cost 28 million USD. Scheduled for completion in July, it is expected to enroll 2,000 students, including 900 boarders.

The HCMC delegates also visited the Political and Administrative University named after the former Lao President Suphanuvong.

Earlier in the visit, they joined Vietnamese nationals in Vientiane to welcome the onset of Lao new year. Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huy Quang on the occasion asked HCM City authorities to call on domestic benefactors to raise a charity fund of about 100,000 USD for teaching aids for 30 classrooms of the Nguyen Du Secondary School in Vientiane.

On April 16, the delegation will visit Champasak province, the source of a numerous investment projects from HCM City businesses.
