The 27th diplomatic conference has outlined specific measures to successfully implement the foreign affairs activities adopted by the 11th National Party Congress.
The 27th diplomatic conference on the theme "Positively and proactively integrating into the world, while synchronously implementing the foreign affairs policies and resolutions of the 11th Party Congress" opened in Hanoi on December 12.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan; Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong; Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh were present at the conference along with representatives from ministries and sectors.
In his speech, FM Binh Minh underlined the need for the diplomatic sector to assume its national responsibility for ensuring a peaceful and stable environment and making the best use of outside resources to serve Vietnam’s socio-economic development and raise its status in the International arena.
In this spirit, the conference will assess the impact of regional and international situations on national security and development in order to devise measures to carry out the foreign policy guidelines set by the 11th National Party Congress.
Party leader Trong highlighted the diplomatic front’s important role as well as its outstanding achievements over the past few years that have helped elevate Vietnam’s international status and demonstrate its positive and responsible contributions to promoting peace and cooperation in the world.
General Secretary Trong asked the diplomatic sector to analyze shortcomings and weaknesses to draw lessons and solutions from them to improve the effectiveness of the county’s foreign affairs.
In the context of the country' entering a new development period with both advantages and challenges, the diplomatic sector needs fully grasp the Party and State’s external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development and international integration to benefit the nation.
The Party chief said it is essential to build a contingent of qualified and ethical cadres who will be capable of fulfilling the new tasks.
The week-long conference will also discuss political, economic and cultural diplomacy; the dissemination of information related to foreign affairs and overseas Vietnamese, and protecting Vietnamese citizens in foreign countries.
On the occasion, the Foreign Ministry will also hold the 16th meeting of foreign affairs officials with the participation of leaders from 63 provinces and cities and representatives from local foreign affairs agencies.
