Related State agencies should devise synchronous measures to raise public awareness of the Law on Consumer Rights Protection, which will take effect on July 1.
This was underscored by participants in the “Law on Consumer Rights Protection – the effective legislative tool for consumer protection in Viet Nam” seminar, organized by the Multilateral Trade Assistance project (EU-Vietnam MUTRAP III) and the Vietnam Competition Administration Department (VCAD) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in Hanoi on June 30.
Reports presented by domestic and foreign experts at the seminar focused on the rights and duties of consumers, responsibilities of traders and social organizations in protecting consumer rights, settling disputes between consumers and service or goods providers, responsibilities of State agencies in charge of consumer protection, and European experiences in protecting consumer rights.
Speaking at the seminar, part of a weekly communications campaign ending on June 30, VCAD Director Bach Van Mung said the law will create a firm legal corridor to facilitate consumer protection in Vietnam.
Vu Thi Bach Nga, Head of the VCAD’s Consumer Protection Board said as compared to the previous Ordinance on Consumer Protection, the law has some new provisions added with new regulations related to responsibilities of goods and service traders to protect consumers.
The business circles are paying special attention to these new regulations.
Dinh Thi My Loan, a permanent member of the Vietnam Standards and Consumers Association (VINASTAS) said this is the first time the law involves arbitrators in the settlement of disputes through negotiations, mediation and Court. She added that it is crucial to protect consumer rights.
