Thirty-five projects were presented with science and technology awards at a ceremony held in Hanoi on April 15.
These are major scientific, social and economic projects, which have been successful put into use in Vietnam.
The awards ceremony was co-organised by the Vietnam Union of Technical and Scientific Associations and the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Scientific and Technological Creations (VIFOTEC).
The VIFOTEC awards were presented to projects in various fields including mechanics, automation, environmental protection and the use of natural resources, bio-technologies, telecommunications and IT, plus energy saving, and the use of new energy sources.
Addressing the awards ceremony, Professor To Huy Rua, a politburo member of the Party Central Committee praised the outstanding achievements made by scientists and entrepreneurs in scientific research and technology development. He emphasised that the organising board should support initiatives to find scientific and technological solutions to improve the competitive edge of Vietnamese products. He added that it is necessary to create a mechanism, which encourages people’s passion for research as well as the achievements by working people at all levels.
Also on the occasion, the board launched the 2009 VIFOTEC award to promote the need for research into science and technology.
