The course, jointly organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Continuing Education Department (CED) under the Ministry of Education and Training, was one of the community-related activities with the aim of building, consolidating, and developing organizations and activities on the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese (OV) communities.

Firstly launched in 2013, such courses have attracted the participation of more than 800 OV teachers worldwide.

Addressing the closing ceremony, SCOV Vice Chairman Mai Van Dung emphasized that language is a means to convey culture, knowledge and traditions. In the context of stronger growth of the OV communities, the work of preserving and spreading the mother tongue has become extremely urgent and is always paid attention to and respected by the Party and State of Vietnam.

As one of over 60 participating teachers, Ms. Tran Thi Hong Hanh, an OV from Taiwan (China), shared that she had gained useful knowledge from the two-week course. “We are aware of our responsibility to impart the acquired knowledge to Vietnamese children abroad. We will do our utmost to fulfill this responsibility,” said Ms. Hanh.
