Most schools in Australia start new school terms at the end of January and early February. Together with local junior and secondary schools, 20 Vietnamese language teaching centres in Melbourne began the new academic year on Feb.3. These centres have classes for all grades.
In Victoria state, the Vietnamese language has been recognised as a major subject which students have to pass on the final examination of the 12th grade. For Vietnamese students, language is not only to preserve the national tradition, but they can choose it as a major on the final exam.
