Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Nguyen Van Trung spoke highly of the event, saying it helps bring Vietnamese people living overseas closer to each other.

Trung went on to laud effort of Movitel, a joint venture between Vietnam’s military-run telecom group Viettel and Mozambique’s SPI, in performing social responsibility. The development of the Vietnamese community in Mozambique is associating with the increasing presence of Vietnamese businesses, especially Movitel, in the southern African nation, he said.

He took the occasion to present gifts, including traditional masks and lanterns made by the embassy's staff, to children of Vietnamese families and Mozambican employees of Movitel.

Movitel, the first joint venture of Viettel in Africa, started operation in May 2012. Since then, it has developed a network of over 2,800 transmission stations and 27,650 km of cable and become Mozambique’s biggest mobile operator.
