Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Mai, Principal of Nhon Ai Secondary School, shared that despite harsh weather conditions, the troops promoted their responsibility and wholeheartedly joined hands to help the local authorities and people overcome flood consequences. “They set good examples for the students here,” she added.

In the first phase of mass mobilization work in 2023, unit leaders at all levels in the whole military strictly grasped situations, such as the advantages and disadvantages of localities.

Reportedly, in the first phase, General Department II organized mass mobilization in the two communes of Trung Nam (Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province) and Dong Phong (Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province). On the occasion, the unit handed over gratitude houses, offered gifts to needy and policy households, presented medical supplies, and provided free health checkups and medicines for the locals, totaling more than VND 450 million.

Meanwhile, from July 15 to 21, more than 30,000 troops, militiamen, and reserve forces of Military Region 5 (MR5) visited key areas as well as remote and mountainous areas and localities frequently affected by natural disasters. On the occasion, MR5’s armed forces concreted more than 52km of roads; leveled 20km of roads, repaired five bridges and more than 200 houses, and helped the locals harvest 677 hectares of crops.

Besides, units in the whole military also disseminated information to more than 14,000 people; built political systems in 210 communes, made contribution to building new-style rural areas, renewed more than 400km of roads, dredged more than 800km of canals, beautified 742 war cemeteries, handed over 350 comrade and gratitude houses, repaired 550 houses for policy beneficiaries, and provided free health check-ups and medicines for more than 214,000 people, among others, for a total of more than VND 60 billion.

These activities encouraged the local authorities and people to raise their responsibility towards the community and to build new-style rural areas. Especially, local Party committees and authorities gained valuable experience in mobilizing people’s synergy and successfully implemented their political tasks in the locality.

Closely working together and boosting combined strength

These practical activities of the Vietnamese soldiers and militiamen have left good impressions on the local authorities and people. According to Mr. Bui Huynh Trung, Chairman of Phu Loi commune People’s Committee, the troops brought a joyful atmosphere to the locality. “After a week, the commune’s appearance has changed,” he said excitedly.

Earlier, people in the areas made cakes and drinks for troops as sincere thanks to them for their help. They hoped that military units would continue to carry out meaningful activities in the coming time.

Many units found effective and creative measures in dissemination and mass mobilization work, such as distributing leaflets, organizing contests on national sea and islands as well as traditions of the locality and the military; offering incense to pay tribute to fallen soldiers, and providing free medical examinations, health counseling, and medicines.

These activities contributed to raising troops and people’s awareness of the Party’s guidelines and viewpoints and State’s policies; enhancing their trust in the Party, State and military; preserving and upholding national cultural identity; promoting the combined strength; thereby achieving socio-economic development targets; and ensuring defense and security work in the areas.

Furthermore, military units also sent troops to localities to help them raise the quality of political and social organizations, finalize defensive training documents, and build plans in response to natural disasters and diseases, among others.

Major General Ngo Thanh Hai, Head of the Department of Mass Mobilization under the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army held that the department will make recommendations to the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense, and GDP to direct units in the whole military to renovate contents and measures of this work while building plans to promote the combined strength of the whole military.
