Fishermen confident heading to the sea with coast guards’ supports
PANO – Coast Guard Region 1 held a meeting on March 21 to equip fishermen with essential safety skills at sea and offer lifebuoys, lifejackets, and national flags to fishermen in Co To island district.
This was part of the mass mobilization program, “Coast guards stand by fishermen”, launched in Co To island district of Quang Ninh province by Coast Guard Region 1 in 2017 with the aim of raising fishermen’s awareness of the importance of seas and islands as well as of the mission of protecting national sovereignty over the seas and islands.

During the event, teams of Coast Guard Region 1 Command and Co To Border Post delivered thousands of leaflets, lifebuoys, lifejackets, national flags, radio sets, and lanterns to fishermen and installed medicine cabinets on their trawlers.
In addition, they also provided fishermen with skills to extinguish fires and give first aid to patients at sea, as well as updated them on new legal knowledge and current situation.
These activities help strengthen military-civilian solidarity and encourage fishermen to continue working at high sea.
Meanwhile the medical staff of the command, in association with Co To island district’s medical center and voluntary young doctors provided free health check-ups and medicines to more than 100 policy beneficiaries and needy islanders.
