Under this program, the command in coordination with Ho Chi Minh City-based Hung Vuong Hospital provided free health check-ups and medicines for some 1,000 people in Tan Yen commune, Kien Giang province’s An Bien district, and Khanh Hoi, Khanh Lam communes in Ca Mau province’s U Minh district. The joint forces also presented local fishermen with over 200 gifts and 75 medicine bags.

Along with the social welfare activities, the command distributed nearly 1,500 leaflets, 400 booklets on the Vietnam Coast Guard Law in 2018, regulations to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to hundreds of people in An Bien district and Khanh Hoi commune. The command also presented 1,000 national flags and over 200 portraits of Uncle Ho to them.

As part of the program, coast guards of Region 4 laid wreath and offered incense in tribute to heroes and fallen soldiers and in commemoration of victims of Storm Linda in 1997. They visited local policy beneficiaries and national contributors.

Additionally, members of the command’s Youth Union organization and Women’s Union teamed with local troops and departments, organizations to implement the program “Joining hands to protect environment,” during which they collected and treated over 1.5 tons of waste.

In order to multiply students’ love for national sea and islands, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command in collaboration with the Division of Education and Training of An Bien district, Kien Giang province launched the “I love national sea and islands” contest among secondary school students in both in-person and virtual forms.

One hundred best students of the virtual first round, which attracted 7,694 students, entered the second round held in offline format. The organizers presented 66 awards to best groups and individuals of the two rounds, 10 bikes and 300 scholarships to students with adversity in life and good academic records.
