The exercise takes place from December 1 to 4, gathering armed forces from different military units and localities in Military Region 7 as well as services of the MND.
In this exercise, the participants practice shifting armed forces to a higher-level combat readiness status, making preparations for a defensive posture, and conducting defensive operations.
In his speech, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the military region-level defensive operation plays an important role in the whole-people's warfare to firmly safeguard the Fatherland on the basis of defensive areas at the provincial and municipal level that are built up and prepared for in peacetime.
He requested the exercise’s Steering Board and functional agencies to seriously direct the exercise to ensure that it would run as planned. He also asked for close management and drawing of lessons in a timely manner, focusing on clarifying subjects, scale, forces, vehicles, plots, schemes, and operational methods and acts of sabotage of the enemy in Military Region 7’s area in the future. He underlined that the exercise would help adjust and supplement combat determination for local armed forces according to task requirements in the current context.
At the same time, the defense minister stressed the importance of good coordination among forces, guaranteeing logistics supplies and technical services in the context that the enemy uses high-tech weapons, and pro-active development of plans to mobilize forces to cope with modern warfare.
Meanwhile, during the exercise, the participants should strictly comply with regulations on state secret and military secret protection, contributing to the success of the event.
