Vietnamese Defense Ministry, Russia’s Security Agency boost cooperation
PANO – A high-ranking defense delegation, led by Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Deputy Defense Minister, is attending the 18th meeting of heads from special services, security agencies, and law enforcement organizations in Russia’s Sochi city from October 15 to 19.

This year’s event gathers 123 delegations from 79 countries and four international organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. The meeting has convened to discuss international counter-terrorism issues as well as the promotion of cooperation to ensure national cyberspace safety and security.
The participation of the Vietnamese delegation aims to realize the agreement inked in April, 2018 during a visit to Russia by the Vietnamese Defense Minister and to raise the effectiveness of defense cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and Russia’s Security Agency.
Besides activities at the plenum, the Vietnamese delegation also joined a group discussion on international information security. Vietnamese representative delivered a note, titled “Vietnam’s activities in protecting national cyberspace safety and security.”
The visit to Russia by the Vietnamese delegation is expected to strengthen defense cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and Russia’s Security Agency in particular and the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general.
