At the reception, General Chien congratulated Colonel Eugene Dudley on his successful term in Vietnam, highly appreciated his contribution during his time as South African Defense Attaché and Head of the Military Attaché Corps in Vietnam, thereby promoting the Vietnam - South Africa defense cooperation and effectively conducting activities of the Military Attaché Corps in Vietnam.

Affirming that South Africa is Vietnam’s active partner in the field of defense cooperation, General Chien noted that over the past time, the bilateral defense cooperation has been bolstered in accordance with the agreement signed in 2006 between the two defense ministries.

He also requested that both sides should accelerate the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation, paving the way for strengthening the bilateral defense cooperation, towards the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - South Africa diplomatic ties; maintain effective consultation mechanisms and delegation exchange; promote cooperation in training, defense industry, military medicine, in line with each side’s potential.

Especially, General Chien hoped that the two sides would enhance cooperation and experience sharing in U.N. peacekeeping operations and soon establish cooperation in this field.

For his part, Colonel Eugene Dudley expressed his honor as the South African Defense Attaché to Vietnam and Head of the Military Attachés Corps in the country. He underscored that over the past time, the defense cooperation between the two countries has achieved fruitful outcomes. He also thanked the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for supporting him during his working term in the country, hoping that the bilateral relations in general, and the bilateral defense cooperation in particular would be further promoted.
