PANO – The delegation of the National Steering Committee on the search and collection of martyrs’ remains led by its Permanent Deputy Head, Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung held talks on January 4th in Beijing with Chinese Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs Dou Yu Pei.

At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung recommended a number of contents to the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs, including directing concerned localities, organizations and individuals to review and conclude the information related to graves and remains of the troops of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), who laid down their lives in China, and inform  Vietnam via the diplomatic channel.

The delegation also asked the Chinese Government to help Vietnam collect the remains of 19 VPA cadres and troops who died during training offered by China during the two wars of resistance and direct relevant authorities and localities to coordinate with the authorities of Vietnam in surveying, reviewing and making conclusion about the number, names, and burial places of the Vietnamese martyrs who had sacrificed when coordinated with  the Chinese People's Liberation Army in the Shi Wan Da Shan Mountain Campaign (1949-1950). The Vietnamese official also informed the host of the information concerning Chinese soldiers died in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Dou Yu Pei welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and proposed that the Vietnamese committee and relevant agencies support the Chinese side and send more information concerning Chinese military personnel killed in action in Vietnam.

At the end of the talks, the two headdelegates acknowledged and collected the opinions and proposals of each side to report to their governments for further instructions.
