Vietnam attends virtual ADSOM WG and ADSOM+ WG

The ADSOM WG and ADSOM+ WG were chaired by Lieutenant General Lay Chenda, Deputy Head of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Relations, Director of the ASEAN Department under the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, and Head of ADSOM WG/ADSOM+ WG Cambodia.

The two meetings aimed to make preparation for upcoming activities of ASEAN defense ministers in November in Cambodia.

At the ADSOM WG meeting, delegates discussed the launch of observers on activities of the Expert Working Group of ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+), the draft joint statement of the 9th ADMM+, and the preparation for the informal meeting between ASEAN Defense Ministers and their partners.

The ADSOM WG meeting is held virtually.

The ADSOM+ WG meeting focused discussions on finalizing the draft joint statement of the 9th ADMM+ on the basis of the results reached at previous working group meetings. Also at the ADSOM+ WG meeting, preparation for the 9th ADMM+ and other issues was also discussed.

During the two meetings, the Vietnamese delegation actively contributed opinions, particularly on the draft joint statement of the 9th ADMM+ in the spirit of supporting the chair Cambodia on the principle of ASEAN consensus, and ensuring Vietnam’s interests.

At the events, the Cambodian head delegate, on behalf of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, thanked ASEAN member countries and partner countries for participating and actively contributing ideas at these meetings. He believed that with the support and active participation of countries, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense will well perform its role as the Chairman of ADMM and ADMM+ in 2022.
