General Nguyen Tan Cuong receives Russian guest
PANO - Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defense General Nguyen Tan Cuong received Aleksandr Vyacheslavovich Kurenkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters on March 5 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

At the meeting, Vietnam's defense leader noted that the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia continue to strengthen. He emphasized that bilateral defense cooperation, marked by trust and efficiency, remains a vital pillar of the relationship.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong highlighted successful cooperation in high-level delegation exchanges, education, inter-service collaboration, and scientific research via the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center. He also praised the Russian Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters for its domestic and international disaster management, search and rescue, and humanitarian efforts, which contribute significantly to Russia’s national security and social stability.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong noted that bilateral cooperation has been effectively implemented under the 2001 and 2015 Memorandums of Understanding. Key activities include delegation exchanges, training, professional sharing, and participation in Russia’s International Exhibition of Rescue Equipment.
Looking ahead, General Nguyen Tan Cuong proposed promoting high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation in civil defense, disaster response, and emergency management. He also suggested joint research on search and rescue equipment and invited Russian delegations and defense enterprises to the "Vietnam Defense Expo 2026."
Minister Aleksandr Vyacheslavovich Kurenkov praised the existing results in civil defense and emergency response, affirming significant potential for further bilateral cooperation.

The Russian official expressed his agreement with the cooperation proposals put forward by Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense and voiced hope that the two sides would continue expanding cooperation in line with their respective needs and interests. He also highlighted the importance of sharing experience in deploying military medical forces in search and rescue missions, contributing to further strengthening the bilateral relationship.
