During the meeting, the Vietnamese defense chief confirmed that the people and military of Vietnam always bear in mind and treasure the great support from Belarus for the country in the struggle for national independence, reunification in the past and the current Fatherland construction and defense.

The two ministers stressed that over the past time, the two countries’ traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation have developed intensively and effectively. On the basis of the two countries’ fruitful relations, the bilateral defense ties have been effectively carried out according to the signed agreements, reaping good outcomes in such areas as exchange of all-level delegations, military science, and close cooperation in the international army games (Army Games).

An overview of the meeting

Regarding their cooperation in the time to come, the two sides agreed to accelerate the bilateral defense cooperation with a focus on effectively implementing the annual defense cooperation plan, enhancing exchanges and contacts and experience sharing in order to boost mutual trust and understanding. They will also strengthen cooperation in training, consider fostering the cooperation in such fields that meet each side’s strengths, needs, and conditions as cartography, topography, U.N. peacekeeping; promote exchange of training experience; ensure logistics supplies and technical services; and continue to support and take part in international multilateral activities hosted by each side.

Defense Minister Phan Van Giang informed that next year Vietnam will organize a range of activities in celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army, including the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024. He invited Minister Viktor Gennadievich Khrenin to pay a visit to Vietnam on this occasion and expressed his hope to receive active support and participation from Belarusian Ministry of Defense and defense enterprises.
