During the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Laos General Chansamone Chanyalath, both ministers expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the cooperation between the two defense ministries from the beginning of 2024, including efforts to construct two clusters of villages and survey sites for building three new ones along the Vietnam-Laos borderline.

The two sides also discussed key contents in bilateral defense cooperation in the coming time, especially the acceleration of the signing of a protocol on defense cooperation between the two ministries for the 2025-2029 period and preparations for the 2nd Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange, slated for October, 2024 in Vietnam’s Son La province and Laos’ Houaphanh province. The Vietnamese Defense Minister suggested the Lao Ministry of Defense pay attention to and direct relevant agencies to coordinate with the Vietnamese side to thoroughly prepare and successfully organize this important event.

Vietnamese and Cambodian defense ministers

While meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Cambodia General Tea Seiha, the two ministers reviewed and assessed the recent results of defense cooperation and proposed future cooperation areas. Both sides agreed to closely coordinate on key areas of cooperation, such as maintaining delegation exchanges and cooperation mechanisms, enhancing cooperation between border management and protection forces, organizing young officer exchanges and young military leaders' exchanges, and working on a protocol for defense cooperation for the 2025-2029 period.

Gen. Giang hoped that Cambodia will continue coordinating and supporting the search, collection, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisers who laid down their lives while conducting international service in Cambodia.

At the meeting with his Mongolian counterpart Byambatsogt Sandag, Gen. Giang expressed confidence that the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Mongolia this year marks an important milestone for the two sides to further enhance cooperation in various fields, including defense cooperation. Both sides agreed to actively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon during the Vietnamese Defense Minister’s official visit to Mongolia in October 2023, focusing on military technical cooperation, defense industry, education and training, and U.N. peacekeeping operations.

On the sidelines of the forum, the head of the Vietnamese delegation exchanged measures to substantively and effectively foster bilateral defense cooperation with Singaporean Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen and Russian Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Alexander Vasilyevich Fomin.

At sidelines bilateral meetings and exchanges, Gen. Giang invited military leaders and defense industry businesses of countries to the second Vietnam International Defense Expo in December.
