Defense Minister Phan Van Giang General and Mongolian Defense Minister Saikhanbayar Gursed

After the reception, the two defense ministers held talks. During the event, General Phan Van Giang welcomed Mr. Saikhanbayar Gursed to Vietnam to participate in the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022. The Vietnamese defense minister recalled the traditional and long-standing relations between Vietnam and Mongolia which have been founded and nurtured by President Sedenban and President Ho Chi Minh and generations of leaders and peoples of the two countries with practical outcomes. He affirmed that the Vietnamese people always bear in mind the support of the Mongolian people during its cause of national liberation and construction.

General Phan Van Giang also noted that in Vietnamese external policy, the country gives priority to developing the friendship and cooperation with traditional friends, including Mongolia.

For his part, Mongolian Defense Minister Saikhanbayar Gursed underscored that Vietnam has a particularly important position in Mongolia’s foreign policy. In addition, Mongolia always attaches much importance to developing relations with Vietnam, considering Vietnam as a bridge to promote relations in ASEAN and an important partner of Mongolia. Therefore, Mongolia would like to promote defense cooperation with Vietnam, contributing to bolstering the bilateral cooperation in general.

At the talks

At the talks, both sides agreed that over the past time, on the basis of mutual trust and support, the bilateral relations have been comprehensively and practically developed in many fields, especially cooperation in economy, trade, education and investment.

Regarding defense cooperation, on the basis of an agreement between the two governments on defense cooperation signed in 2019, the two sides have effectively implemented signed cooperation contents. In the coming time, they will continue to support each other to enhance cooperation and conduct agreed contents, such as maintaining exchanges at all levels; raising cooperation quality in education, military medicine, culture and arts; and sharing experience in U.N. peacekeeping operations, among others.

On this occasion, both sides discussed situations in the world and the region as well as issues of mutual concern, emphasized the importance of maintaining an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development over the East Sea (South China Sea).
