PANO – The ninth ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (ANCM-9) is taking place in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, from August 19th to 22nd.
It is an annual event held in turn by navies of the ASEAN member countries.
Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam, Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, led a mission to attend the meeting.

During the working sessions, the ASEAN naval chiefs shared their views on the event’s theme “Fostering ASEAN Naval Teamwork in Regional Maritime Security” and passed important documents towards their coming cooperation, such as the ANCM Roadmap, humanitarian and disaster relief assistance, multinational exercises, anti-piracy and anti-armed crime patrols, and basic concepts of ANCM+.
In addition, they discussed an international ship parade for the 50th foundation anniversary of the ASEAN in 2017, the ANCM-10 preparations and the 2015 ASEAN Young Naval Officers Exchange among others.
Earlier, the participants had bilateral meetings. Particularly, Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam met with his counterparts from Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
