Cuisine has long been considered a cornerstone of traditional Vietnamese culture, and highly praised by international tourists and media. Vietnamese cuisine is famous for its cooking methods and ingredients. Each region of the country has its own culinary features with unique flavors.
The Army Games 2020 attracts the attention of the international community. Therefore, the Vietnamese Field Kitchen team has identified the “Master Chef” contest as an opportunity to bring their traditional cuisine to foreign diners, especially for those who have not had the chance to come to Vietnam.

During this year’s “Field Kitchen” category, competitors are required to have both shooting expertise and cooking skills. |
“Each participating team must prepare at least two traditional dishes for 30 people or more if the organizers request. The traditional dishes will be cooked and displayed in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Army Games 2020. At the contest, the Vietnamese logistics soldiers will prepare various traditional dishes. In addition, the team will introduce coffee, tea of Thai Nguyen province, green bean cakes of Hai Duong, Bat Trang pottery products, conical hats, and other images of the country and Vietnamese people,” Senior Colonel Pham Van Khao, Head of the Vietnamese Field Kitchen Team, said.
This is the third time that the Vietnamese Field Kitchen Team has participated in this event. This year, the team will compete in meal cooking and baking with their rivals from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Abkhazia and Uzbekistan at the Alabino shooting range.
No matter how much experience they bring from the two previous competitions, the Vietnamese logistic soldiers still face difficulties. During this year’s “Field Kitchen” category, they are required to have both shooting expertise and cooking skills as well as knowledge of European dishes.
“On August 18, we were trained by Russian experts on the use of equipment for the baking and cooking competitions. These are old pieces of Russian equipment for field trips in the past, so they are difficult to use. Despite the difficulties, we are determined to have the best results at the Army Games 2020,” Khao stressed.
