Vietnam to expand health cooperation with WHO
PANO – The health cooperation program with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the 2018-2019 fiscal year, sponsored by the organization, has been ratified by the Vietnam Prime Minister.
The long-term purpose of the program is to support the Vietnamese Government in effectively addressing priority issues of the healthcare sector while successfully implementing strategies of health protection and healthcare for the community in the 2016-2020 period, with a vision to 2030, and the project “Development and Building Healthcare Network in the 2016-2025 period.”

Additionally, the program also aims to promote the capabilities of the legal system and human resources, finance, medicines and medical products, and to boost the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR) to promptly deal with urgent health issues and efficiently use WHO’s financial support for Vietnam in improving the health of its citizens.
Furthermore, the program will reduce risks of communicable and non-communicable diseases in the community such as HIV/AIDS, virus hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and malaria.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health is the program’s holder. It will be provided by WHO wiht around US$ 21 million under the non-refundable Official Development Assistance (ODA), including available funds of US$ 11.9 million, mobilized funds of US$ 9.1 million and counterpart funds of VND 6.5 billion in cash.
