Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu |
Talking about the reasons why WPC chooses Vietnam to host the event, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu said that Vietnam and the World Peace Council have special historical relationship. Vietnam was one of the founding members of WPC. Over the past seven decades, WPC has always accompanied Vietnam, giving support to the country’s struggle for peace, national independence, unification, territorial integrity and its present Fatherland construction and defense cause.
Meanwhile, Vietnam has been an active and responsible member of WPC. The country's participation in WPC-hosted activities has been recognized by international friends and members of the council. This is one of the reasons why WPC chooses to hold its 22nd congress in Vietnam.
In addition, Vietnam is a peaceful and stable country which is innovating, integrating, and developing. The Vietnamese are patriotic, peace-loving, very friendly, hospitable, loyal, and affectionate people. Over the past 35 years of implementing the Doi moi (renewal) policy, Vietnam has achieved great and comprehensive achievements in all fields. The country is one of the few in the world well controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the global crisis over the past two years, Vietnam has still achieved very positive achievements in socio-economic development. Those are the factors to persuade WPC’s members that the S-shaped country is the right place to hold this event.
He affirmed that the Vietnam Peace Committee and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations are capable and experienced organizations in holding multilateral people-to-people diplomacy events. He affirmed that organizing this congress is a responsibility and great honor of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam Peace Committee. It is also opportunity for the country to popularize its history, revolutionary traditions, as well as achievements in its renewal.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee said that through the event, Vietnam wants to introduce the image of the Vietnamese people in the past and at present to international friends and WPC’s members.
This congress shows Vietnam's active contribution to the council’s activities in particular and the world peace movement in general. The event is also to enhance the role and position of Vietnam in general, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam Peace Committee in particular in the world peace movement. It also proves that that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community.
He emphasized that the congress is an opportunity for Vietnam to share its experience in building the socialism with international friends and WPC’s members. Through the event, Vietnam wants to thank international friends, including WPC and its member organizations, for supporting and accompanying the Vietnamese people in their national liberation, renewal, and present construction, defense, and development cause.
For Vietnam, the congress provides a chance to enhance the Vietnamese people’s awareness of the role and value of peace in the fatherland construction and defense in Vietnam and the significance of international solidarity and support from international friends to the success of the Vietnamese revolution. The task of protecting peace is everyone's responsibility as the first President of WPC Frédéric Joliot-Curie once said.
Vietnam's participation in peacekeeping operations is not just about opposing wars, preventing new world wars or nuclear ones, limiting arms races, combating terrorism, racial discrimination or inequality, but the concept of peacekeeping and protection has been expanded. Peace is not just the absence of war, but it is a matter of development, the environment, human rights, justice and righteousness. Vietnam needs to participate on a broader scale to further contribute to the preservation of sustainable peace on earth.
