President of the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation Ilda Figuereido, also a member of the WPC Executive Committee, expressed her belief that Vietnam will further contribute to the peace movement of the world people and the WPC in particular.
The WPC was founded at the World Congress of Partisans for Peace in Paris, France in April 1949, gathering representatives from political parties, peace committees and organizations from around the world.
Since its establishment, the WPC has supported Vietnam, particularly during the fight for national independence. It has also organized activities to help Vietnamese Agent Orange/dioxin victims seek justice.
In 2010, the WPC issued a resolution designating August 10 as Day in Support of Vietnamese AO victims.
