MOFA Spokesperson answering press inquiries about a number of issues
PANO – Answering inquiries of the press on the situation of the Vietnamese citizens in Qatar at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) held on June 15, Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang confirmed that the life of Vietnamese citizens in Qatar, remains stable despite growing tension between the country and other nations in the Persian Gulf region.

According to Hang, the Vietnamese Embassy in Qatar has regularly updated and closely followed developments in the country. As directed by the MOFA, the embassy is keeping close contact with companies which sent workers to Qatar and workers’ liaison boards in the country to regularly update the country’s situation to Vietnamese workers in Qatar. It has also advised the citizens to continue working and living as usual while keeping close contact with the embassy for timely assistance when needed. The MOFA has also worked with relevant agencies at home for protection measures when necessary.
Concerning Doan Thi Huong, a Vietnamese suspect in the death of a Democratic People’s Republic of Korean citizen in Malaysia, Hang informed that according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, Huong is in stable physical and spiritual conditions and the MOFA is closely working with domestic relevant agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, the Vietnam Bar Federation, and Malaysian lawyers to best protect the interests of Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong.
Regarding the statement by the spokesperson the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on June 13 confirming that the RoK attaches great importance to the relations with Vietnam and wishes to further promote the relations following the statement of President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in honoring troops of the RoK joining the war in foreign countries, including Vietnam, Hang said, “Vietnam wants to maintain friendly relations with all countries that once participated in the war in Vietnam, including the RoK. Leaders of the two countries have reached a common perception of putting aside the past and looking forwards to the future.”
As for the fire at the 27-storey building Grenfell in West London, England on June 14, Hang confirmed that according to information from the Embassy of Vietnam in the UK, there have been no Vietnamese caught in the fire so far. She also sent deepest condolences to the British Government, people and families of the victims.
