At the meeting, Chuck Searcy, an advisor for the Norway-funded project Restoring the Environment and Neutralizing the Effects of the War (RENEW), gave the students a presentation on the consequences of post-war UXO problems in Vietnam and addressed the high rates of bomb and mine contamination in the country.

Since the restoration of peace, post-war UXO has caused thousands of casualties in Vietnam.

The RENEW project was launched in Quang Tri province in 2001 with the aim of clearing UXO and raising donations to support people with UXO-caused disabilities.

Over the past time, the Vietnamese Party, State and Ministry of National Defence, together with international and non-governmental organizations, have been attaching special importance to overcoming the dangers of bombs, mines, and all kinds of explosives left behind from the wars.
