Conference held to seek measures for the comprehensive development of children
PANO – The Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs and the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood co-organized the ninth Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Early Childhood in Hanoi on December 4.
Themed “Working across sectors to promote nurturing and sustainable environments for young children,” the event attracted the participation of over 500 delegates from 35 countries and territories and 44 UN, international, and regional organizations.

The three-day conference aims to raise awareness among policymakers and those who study threats to children’s development as well as to mobilize efforts in taking care of children. Delegates will share experiences in multi-sectoral models and programs to mitigate the impact of toxic environment on children, promote a nurturing environment for them, and increase multi-sectoral partnership in the field.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that laws and policies of countries, including Vietnam, always give priority to children. He called for joint efforts between the State agencies, organizations, and families in taking care of children, especially those in needy localities and with disabilities.
Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said that the conference took place at a time when the world is marking the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
He added that Vietnam wants to share and learn experiences from international friends to better enforce the rights of the child.
Participants will also hold working sessions with Vietnamese departments and agencies to share experiences in exercising laws and programs for children as well as extensively discuss environmental threats to the health and development of children and seek solutions to these problems.
As scheduled, the delegates will reach a joint statement to call for joint efforts in promoting comprehensive development of children at early ages.
