Minister Son stated that during the talks with his Chilean counterpart Alberto Van Klaveren, who is on an official visit to Vietnam, in Hanoi on August 25.

At the talks, the Vietnamese official expressed delight at the development of the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, particularly two-way trade-economic turnover reaching over USD 2 billion.

He stressed that Vietnam is willing to deepen its relations with Chile in politics-diplomacy, economy-trade and investment, culture-education, science-technology, defense-security, and people-to-people exchange. Vietnam supports the country’s steps in strengthening its bonds with ASEAN and East Asia-Pacific region, Minister Son added.

For his part, Minister Alberto Van Klaveren said that generations of Chilean governments always treasure and wish to boost relations with Vietnam in the general policy towards the Asia-Pacific region.

During the talks, the two sides discussed and agreed on some measures to develop the two countries’ ties in a deeper manner in the time ahead. Both ministers were unanimous in promoting and negotiating some cooperation agreements in terms of trade, customs, agriculture, defense, security and law enforcement.

On regional and global issues of common concern, the two sides agreed that international disputes should be settled by peaceful means on the basis of respect for international laws, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation in the two regions and the world.
