At the event, the two sides expressed delight at the recent positive development momentum and milestone achievements of Vietnam - China relations, especially after the historic visit to China by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in October 2022 and the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in December 2023.

The two sides discussed in-depth measures to actualize high-level common perception, especially the joint statement on continuing deepening and elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, and building a Vietnam - China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

They agreed to frankly and sincerely exchange views on maritime issues and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability at sea in the context of current complex developments of international and regional situations; well implement the high-level common perception and the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of Vietnam - China maritime issues; promote the effectiveness of negotiation mechanisms; exert efforts to control and resolve disagreements at sea; and join ASEAN countries to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (South China Sea), soon achieve the effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea, consistent with international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.
