The visit takes place in the context of profound changes in the regional and global situations, with the world moving toward a multipolar and multi-centered order. The global economy is recovering slowly, while non-traditional security challenges are becoming increasingly prominent and geopolitical competition is closely intertwined with technology, supply chains, energy, and strategic resources.

Located in Central Europe, Liechtenstein covers only about 160 square kilometers and has a population of around 40,000, but it is among the world’s leading countries in terms of per capita income, reaching approximately USD 231,000 in 2025. The country has strengths in industry, high-tech manufacturing, financial services, banking, and innovation, and is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Its small but highly specialized economy has enabled businesses to develop advanced technologies and compete successfully in global markets.
Nearly two decades after the establishment of diplomatic relations, Viet Nam-Liechtenstein ties have continued to develop positively. Two-way trade reached USD 9.8 million in 2025. Liechtenstein currently has one valid processing and manufacturing project in Dong Nai province, ranking 86th among 153 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.
With its experience in finance, asset management, and international business services, Liechtenstein has considerable potential to expand cooperation with Viet Nam in corporate governance, risk management, compliance, and investment support in accordance with the laws of each country and relevant international standards.
The two countries share common interests in promoting multilateralism, upholding international law, and advancing cooperation for peace, stability and sustainable development. There is considerable room for them to make better use of Liechtenstein’s strengths and Viet Nam’s market potential and strategic location in Southeast Asia.
The conclusion of negotiations on the Viet Nam-EFTA Free Trade Agreement on July 2, 2026, has opened up new prospects for trade, investment and business cooperation. The agreement is expected to provide a more favorable framework for businesses on both sides to expand market access and strengthen economic connectivity.
In that context, Prime Minister Brigitte Haas’s visit is expected to strengthen political trust and provide fresh impetus for bilateral relations. It will also help promote the effective implementation of existing agreements and further capitalize on Viet Nam’s role as a bridge to ASEAN and Liechtenstein’s role within EFTA.
Hosting the Liechtenstein Prime Minister also reflects Viet Nam’s consistent foreign policy following the 14th National Party Congress, particularly the implementation of Politburo Resolution No.06-NQ/TW on implementing the foreign policy set out by the 14th National Party Congress and Resolution No.59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation.
Viet Nam attaches importance to its friendship with Liechtenstein and stands ready to make effective use of the country’s strengths in areas that meet Viet Nam’s development needs. At the same time, the two sides have substantial room to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest and complementarity.
Prime Minister Brigitte Haas’s official visit to Viet Nam is expected to be a success, creating fresh momentum for deeper, more substantive and effective bilateral cooperation and contributing to stronger ties between the two countries.
