The praise was made during the visit to UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on October 7 as part of his activities at the 19th Francophonie Summit and official visit to France.

At the meeting, the Party and State leader of Vietnam spoke highly of UNESCO’s role and contribution to sustaining peace and security and promoting sustainable development in the world through enhancing multilateral cooperation in education, culture, science, information, and communications.

Leader To Lam expressed thanks to UNESCO for its support and cooperation over the past nearly 50 years. He expressed his delight at the fruitful development in Vietnam-UNESCO cooperative ties over the past years. He thanked the host for her official visit to Vietnam in September 2022, attendance and delivering of a speech at the 35th anniversary of UNESCO’s Resolution 24 C/18.65 issued in 1987 on honoring late President Ho Chi Minh as a hero of national liberation and an eminent cultural figure of Vietnam. He also extended his thanks to UNESCO for its support and cooperation related to a dossier on preserving and promoting the values of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a sacred national heritage site, and other nominations by Vietnam for UNESCO recognition.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam talked about Vietnam’s remarkable achievements which carry historical significance over the past nearly 40 years of the renewal process and affirmed that in the new era, the era of Vietnam's rise, the country will continue its intensive and extensive integration to contribute more to maintaining regional and global peace, stability, and development.

He underlined that as a member of several important mechanisms within UNESCO, Vietnam will continue to promote its role as an active and responsible member. He said he will authorize relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies to discuss in detail with UNESCO to make Vietnam-UNESCO cooperation more practical and effective in the time to come. He invited the Director-General of UNESCO to return to Vietnam for a future visit.

Expressing her great honor and joy at welcoming the Vietnamese Party and State leader to UNESCO’s headquarters for the first time, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay highlighted the nearly 50 years of cooperation with Vietnam and affirmed that the country is among the most active members of UNESCO and hailed the country’s support and its strong commitments and positive contribution to the organization.

She applauded Vietnam’s policy of being a friend with all countries and highly appreciated the country’s efforts in preserving the traditional culture and national identity during the development process.

Speaking highly of Vietnam’s leading role in heritage preservation and promotion, she pledged to support the country in seeking the UNESCO’s recognition for its heritage, preserving its world heritage sustainably, and developing cultural industries. She was committed to enhancing cooperation with Vietnam in education, science, information, and communications in the coming time.

On this occasion, Party and State leader To Lam and the UNESCO chief visited a photo exhibition featuring Vietnam’s cultural heritage and UNESCO titles, which was jointly held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to UNESCO.

Both the host and guest posed for commemorative photos on the occasion of the cooperation agreements signed between SOVICO Group and the UNESCO on supporting the organization’s activities in Vietnam, aiming to promote sustainable tourism and cultural creativity, and between Vingroup’s VinUniversity and the UNESCO on establishing the first UNESCO-sponsored research and training center in Vietnam at the university.
