Nagasaki prefecture has been improving its learning environment for Vietnamese students by founding a Japanese language school designated for those from Vietnam, Deputy Governor Ken Hirata said, adding that many Vietnamese alumni have been recruited by local enterprises.
Additionally, the prefecture’s international exchange association has set up an one-stop unit providing counseling services in 18 foreign languages, including Vietnamese, and been giving away handbooks guiding foreign students on local life, healthcare and how to response to natural disasters. It also grants a scholarship worth 15,000 JPY (about 120 USD) per month per person to self-funding international students.
A local company, Chukoh Chemical Industries Ltd., has also established a fund providing loans for Vietnamese students.
To recruit more Vietnamese students, the University of Nagasaki has teamed up with Vietnam’s University of Da Nang to host entrance exams at the central coast city and allow Vietnamese students to apply online.
Vietnamese people are recognized as distinguished by many firms and universities in Nagasaki, Hirata said, noting that he expects to see more Vietnamese people, particularly students, in Nagasaki in the coming time.
