Dung hailed the recent opening of the Dominican Republic's embassy in Hanoi as a demonstration of the countries’ friendship and cooperation development.

He gave a brief introduction of Hanoi, its achievements, and development orientations and held that the two countries’ capitals hold much cooperation potential.

The official said he hopes during Rodriguez’s term in Vietnam, the diplomat will act as a bridge helping foster relations between the two countries and the two capital cities.

Expressing his honor to serve as the first ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Vietnam, Rodriguez described the opening of his country’s embassy in Hanoi as an important milestone in bilateral relations, voicing his hope that the embassy will help connect major enterprises of Vietnam with the Dominican Republic and vice versa.

Trade between the two countries remains modest, about USD 100 million, but both sides have shown their determination to lift bilateral relations to a new height, he said.

Informing his host about the coming visit to Vietnam by the President of the Dominican Republic, the ambassador said the visit will be a chance to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam and its localities.

On behalf of the President, the ambassador invited Secretary Dung and leaders of the Hanoi People’s Committee to visit his country in the time ahead, adding that he hopes the trip will be an occasion for exploring cooperation potential between the two countries and their capitals.
