Talking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s resident reporters in China on the thresholds of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s working visit to China from June 24 to 27, Assoc. Prof. Ma Jie at Tianjin University highlighted the great potential for the two countries to boost cooperation in the coming time, noting that the two sides can strengthen cooperation in emerging fields such as digital economy, technological innovation, and agricultural modernization, while viewing this WEF's meeting as an opportunity to jointly promote regional economic integration and global governance.

The two sides have continuously expanded educational and cultural exchanges, strengthening public support as a foundation for their traditional friendship and strategic cooperation, thus creating a stronger motivation for regional peace, stability, and shared development in the new era, he said.
Commenting on the frequent exchanges and meetings between senior leaders of the two countries to advance the China–Vietnam relations across various fields, Ma said that during Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Vietnam, the two sides clearly identified the building of a China–Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance as a core objective, laying out the highest-level framework for cooperation in multiple areas.
He stressed that frequent high-level visits between Chinese and Vietnamese leaders have laid a solid strategic foundation for the bilateral comprehensive cooperation. By strengthening mutual political trust and setting clear directions for cooperation, the two sides have promoted substantive cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, investment, and infrastructure development, while also building a broad platform for cultural and educational exchanges.
Regarding PM Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance at the WEF’s meeting in China for the third year in a row and Vietnam’s contributions to the forum, Ma said the Vietnamese leader has shared practical experiences and proposals on green economy aimed at facilitating trade and attracting foreign investment within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP); and offering fresh ideas for shaping strategies in economics, trade, and sustainable development.
Vietnam has actively supported public-private partnerships and promoted global cooperation consensus, he said, adding that by leveraging its economic strengths to attract global companies, Vietnam has helped bring business resources and partnership opportunities into the forum’s agenda, thereby making important contributions to the meeting’s success in multiple dimensions.
According to the Chinese scholar, during Xi’s visit to Vietnam in April this year, the two sides signed 45 cooperation documents aimed at advancing the building of the China–Vietnam community with a shared future, centered around the goal of “six major orientations.”
In 2024, the two way trade exceeded 260.65 billion USD. In the first quarter of this year, trade volume increased by 9.3% year-on-year. International railway and intermodal freight services have helped significantly reduce logistics costs, while the strategy connecting the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the “Two Corridors, One Belt” Framework has achieved many outstanding results.
