A detailed project to build and improve Cat Tien archaeological site had just approved by the Lam Dong People’s Committee, said Director of the provincial Culture-Sports Office Do Van The on December 12.

The provincial Culture-Sports Office has been given responsibility as the investor for the project, which has an investment of VND 137 billion mobilised from the state, local budgets and international sources.

The site is planned in an area of 70 ha and will include functional sections and sightseeing spaces.

Major works of the project include an area for preservation and recovery of objects, ruins exhibition centre.

At this point, officials are working with locals on land compensation and preparing the site for mine and bomb detection.

The project, which lies within the national relics restoration programme conducted by the Ministry of Culture-Sports-Tourism, will be completed by 2015.

After excavating the site for dozens of times in the last 20 years, archaeologists have found a number of archaeological pieces that have previously been unseen in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
