The construction started in May last year on an area of 15ha, including 3.8ha workshops at the cost of VND 600 billion.

The factory has a designed capacity of 1,500 units per year and creates jobs for 600 local labourers.

The factory will turn out vehicles from 18 to 51 seats and city buses from 30, 40, 60 and 80 seats with the localisation rate of 40 to 46 per cent which are manufactured and assembled on modern lines of the Hyundai–Kia Corporation (the Republic of Korea) suitable to traffic conditions and costumers’ demand in Vietnam.

From 2006 to June 2011, the Thaco produced and distributed to market about 1,100 sleeping-buses, making up 95% of market share of this kind.
