The Chinese Zhenhua Port Machinery Company’s cargo ship, Zhenhua 2, with a DWT of 26,000 tonnes, was the first to arrive at the Sai Gon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) on Aug 13th.

SPCT, built on an area of 40ha in Hiep Phuoc, Nha Be, Ho Chi Minh City, at a cost of US$360 million, is a joint project between DP World Corporation of the United Arab Emirates and the Tan Thuan Industrial Development Company.

SPCT, expected to be officially brought into use in October 2009, will have a nearly 1km international-standard wharf.

Once completed, SPCT will be able to handle 1.5 million TEU each year.
