The Ministry of Fisheries and the People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong will breed salmon in a cold water spring in Lac Duong district after a pilot project netted success.
The bred salmon weigh an average of 1.2 kg each after one year, producing an output of 30 tonnes per ha. The cost of breeding is 63,000-67,000 VND (3.9-4.2 USD) per kilogramme, but the fish sell for 150,000 VND (9.4 USD) a kg.
Elsewhere, the HCM City-based Ha Quang Company has successfully hatched sturgeon eggs and bred the fish in cages in Da Lat City’s Tuyen Lam Lake. The company imported sturgeon eggs and hatching techniques from Russia.
