PANO – The rotor of the sixth and last turbine of the Son La hydroelectric power plant was successfully installed on July 24th by the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation-Lilama.

The rotor, at 15.5m in diameter and 2.8m in height and weight of 1,000 tons, is the heaviest composition of the equipment installed at the plant, and expected to generate electricity in September.

The Son La plant, with its construction starting in 2005 at a cost of VND the 37 trillion, has six turbines for a capacity of 2,400MW.

Once in operation, the plant will be the largest in Southeast Asia, generating 10.2 billion kWh per year.
