Vietnam spent USD 1.3 million to import nuts and dried fruits, mostly from
Hong Kong, for consumption during Lunar New Year 2008, reported the Information Centre under the Ministry of Trade.
In the week, the country imported around 3,000 tons of dried nuts and fruits, an increase of 40% in quantity and 6% in price compared to the previous week.
Also during the second week of January, Vietnam did not import dried almonds. Price of juglans regia imported from Hong Kong reached USD 0.64 per kg, double that of the previous week. Meanwhile, the price of juglans regia imported from South Africa was at USD 62.26 per ton, an increase of 3% compared to the first week of January 2008.
